  13.      The Mutual UFO Network, Inc. is an international scientific organization
  14. composed of people seriously interested in studying and researching the phe-
  15. nomenon known as unidentified flying objects (UFO's) by combining their
  16. mutual talents, areas of expertise and investigative efforts.  MUFON is the
  17. acronym for the Mutual UFO Network, INC., a Texas nonprofit corporation,
  18. exempt from Federal Income Tax under Section 501(c)(3) and a publicly
  19. supported organization of the type described in Section 509(a)(2) of the
  20. Internal Revenue Code.  MUFON firmly believes that a concentrated scientific
  21. study by dedicated investigators and researchers will provide the ultimate
  22. answer to the UFO enigma.

  24.      Founded on May 31, 1969, MUFON's phenomenal success may be attributed to
  25. the "grass roots" nature of the organization where a majority of the
  26. leadership and motivation is achieved at the local level.  In North America,
  27. a State or Provincial Director oversees the investigative activities of the
  28. Field Investigators through State Section Directors.  An International Coor-
  29. dinator and seven Continental Coordinators work with the Foreign Representa-
  30. tives and National Directors in each country on the international scene.
  31. MUFON is governed by a Board of Directors composed of 17 men and women and
  32. administered by an Executive Committee.

  34.      MUFON's Board of Consultants, most whom are PhDs or MDs representing 45
  35. areas of science, technology, medicine, psychiatry, theology, engineering,
  36. astronomy, communications, political science, photo analysis, etc., are
  37. readily available as an advisory group to apply their expertise to UFO cases
  38. under study and to conduct advanced research in their respective field.

  40.      Starting in 1970, MUFON has sponsored an Annual International UFO
  41. Symposium where world known scientists, engineers, university professors and
  42. authors lecture on their particular specialization or contributions to
  43. resolving this perplexing scientific dilemma.  To provide a permanent record
  44. of the presentations, the copyrighted symposium proceedings are published
  45. annually for worldwide distribution.

  47.      In order that only qualified, competent and sincere people may become
  48. involved, membership in MUFON is by invitation only.  Anyone interested in
  49. helping to resolve the UFO phenomenon is invited to join by submitting a
  50. membership application and appropriate dues for approval.  Based upon their
  51. education and experience, members may serve in one or more of the following
  52. positions:  Consultant, State or Provincial Director, State Section Director,
  53. Foreign Representative, Field Investigator, Research Specialist, Amateur
  54. Radio Operator, Astronomy, Field Investigator Trainee, Translator, UFO News
  55. Clipping Service, Contributing Subscriber, or Associate Member (under 18
  56. years of age).

  58.      Field Investigators are trained and high standards of professionalism
  59. are required by MUFON.  As objective, scientific researchers, MUFON Field
  60. Investigators uphold the confidentiality of witnesses and case information.
  61. Investigators are volunteers who conduct research at their own expense, and
  62. attempt to document sighting information in a thorough and unbiased manner.
  63. The third edition of the copyrighted "MUFON FIELD INVESTIGATORS MANUAL",
  64. published in 1983, provides effective guidelines, techniques and suggestions
  65. to members conducting UFO sighting interviews and investigations.  (The
  66. fourth edition will be published in 1989.)

  68.      Amateur Radio Networks, operating weekly, are utilized to receive and
  69. disseminate UFO sighting reports and current UFO information.  The exact
  70. date, time, and frequencies are published in the MUFON UFO JOURNAL.  A master
  71. file, containing all submitted UFO sighting reports, arranged chronologically
  72. by state, province, and country, is maintained in the MUFON administrative
  73. offices.

  75.      A twenty-four page monthly  magazine, the MUFON UFO JOURNAL is our most
  76. significant means of sharing details of UFO sighting reports and vital
  77. information related to the UFO phenomenon with our members throughout the
  78. world.  A subscription to the Journal is included in the annual membership
  79. dues of $25.00 in the U.S.A. and $30.00 in foreign countries in U.S. funds.
